A Tribute to My Cousin, Trio

by Sava

Hampton Ballard, III was his name but we called him Trio and some of his friends called him Max. Even though we did not see each other often the family bond was strong from spending time together when we were all growing up. We got the terrible news of his death on July first and were devastated. That’s all I’ve been able to think about since then. The funeral was Monday on the east coast. Even though we were not able to attend, we could feel the overwhelming sadness across the miles and sent our love and supportive energy there. It is hard to make sense of death. When it happens to someone you love it brings your own mortality closer to home. As the Bible says, “no one knows the time or the day… ” It is so important to enjoy every moment of life and to make sure you tell those you love how much and tell them often. There is comfort in family and friends. The pain gets less but the missing never goes away. Memories can sustain you and even make you smile when you thought you could never smile again. We wish all the Ballards love, strength and comfort. Our arms are around you.

“Perhaps they are not the stars, but rather openings in Heaven,
Where the love of our lost ones pours through
And shines down upon us to let us know
They are happy.”                                Inspired by an Eskimo Legend

We will never forget you, Trio, and will always love you.
